WHAT? No icons?
---------------
Although Sculpt-Animate 4D Jr. (SAJr.) creates icons
for the animations it produces, no icons are created for
the various individual images or scenes. Certainly we
could have had the program automatically create icons for
all files that it produces. But you would have been
quickly buried in icons that fill up disk space and also
slow the system's ability to read directories. The down-
side to the lack of icons is that most users who are
unfamiliar with the AmigaDOS (TM) CLI have a difficult
time tracking, moving, and deleting files without icons.
We decided to find an alternative. The solution we
found was simple. We create icons for those files (the
animations) that are most likely to be given away or
saved permanantly. For the other files, we have created
a simple script that will scan for image files or scene
files that have no icons and add the appropriate icon.
Commodore-Amiga's recent revision to the operating
system made this not only possible but very easy. Under
AmigaDOS 1.3, a facility call IconX was added that allows
a series of CLI commands to be executed from a Workbench (TM)
icon. You will find two such command scripts in this drawer
of your SAJr. distribution disk. One script 'AddImageIcons'
add icons to .image files. All you need to do is drag the
icon to whichever drawer or directory where you would like
icons to be added and double click the icon. When the script
is finished, close the window and reopen it to read the new
icons.
This script may be modified to scan for any file that
consistently ends with the same few letters.
